The Lay Ministry Program was established in the 1990s to implement an on going process to fulfill Grace Church's mission statement, "Making A Difference in People's Lives Through God's Grace."
Due to the size of our church, it is difficult for the pastor to know what is going on in each member's life. The Lay Ministry program administers to church families with volunteers who are designated as "Lay Ministers". These Lay Ministers reach out to church members on a monthly basis to determine their status. Those who are ill, hospitalized, face hardships, want to share a joy, or just need friendship are reported to the Pastor. This program builds a "stairway to heaven" to Jesus. The program currently reaches out to over 400 church families and has approximately 40 active Lay Ministers. These volunteer Lay Ministers share their prayers, energy, time and caring for others. Each Lay Minister is assigned approximately ten families who are organized in "Flocks". No special training is required -- only a warm heart and love for Jesus. Lay Ministers also assist in helping to find other church activities for adults and children.
Monthly reports for each flock are collected on the second Sunday of each month and prepared by the Lay Minister coordinator for review by the Pastor. The specific need is determined and implemented to assist the church members' need. Lay Ministers are also contacted immediately when a death or serious illness occurs in their flock. They provide spiritual and caring assistance to the families to help them get through their crises. With God's guidance, hundreds of Grace Church members have been blessed by this successful Lay Ministry.
